More Than a Headshot: Photographing Bong Benitez and Zemar Achikzai

What began as a professional headshot session for Bong Benitez and Zemar Achikzai became something larger: a collection of portraits designed to support personal branding, dealership marketing, and an evolving creative campaign for Toyota Vallejo.

More Than a Headshot: Photographing Bong Benitez and Zemar Achikzai

Professional photography is not only about looking polished. It is about creating images that feel like the people and businesses they represent.

Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph Bong Benitez and his business partner, Zemar Achikzai, at Toyota Vallejo for one of my first official client engagements under Arjy Blaisdell Photography.

The goal sounded simple at first: updated professional headshots.

But the project quickly became something larger.

Bong and Zemar needed images that could work across several different parts of their professional presence, from individual profiles and business materials to promotional campaigns and large-format creative. That meant we were not simply looking for one flattering photograph. We needed a small collection of images that could each serve a different purpose while still feeling cohesive.

Creating a Professional Look Without Losing Personality

One of the most important things to me during the session was making sure the photographs still felt like them.

Professional does not have to mean stiff.

Bong has an energetic, outgoing personality, while Zemar carries a quieter, composed presence. Rather than forcing both of them into the same visual mold, I wanted their individual portraits to reflect those differences while still belonging to the same overall body of work.

We ultimately selected five finished images: a primary headshot and environmental portrait for each of them, plus a joint promotional image featuring Bong and Zemar together inside the dealership.

The studio-style headshots give them clean, versatile images for professional profiles, websites, business cards, and other formal uses.

Their environmental portraits introduce more personality and context. The dealership itself becomes part of the story, giving the photographs a stronger sense of place and making them useful for marketing in a way that a traditional headshot alone cannot.

Building an Image With a Bigger Purpose

The joint portrait was especially important because we knew from the beginning that it would eventually become part of a larger Toyota Vallejo promotional campaign.

That changed how we approached the photograph.

Instead of tightly framing the pair, we intentionally left room around them so the image could later support graphic design, branding, copy, QR codes, and other campaign elements without losing the strength of the original composition.

That photograph is now being used as the centerpiece of larger creative work being developed through Hearth & Hammer, the creative and business studio my husband Brandon and I operate alongside my photography work.

It has been incredibly rewarding to see one photograph move from the camera into a much larger visual system.

Photography becomes the foundation. Design builds around it. Branding gives it context. Together, those pieces begin telling a much fuller story.

A Growing Creative Partnership

This project was also a small glimpse into something Brandon and I have been building together.

Our work naturally overlaps.

Through Arjy Blaisdell Photography, I focus on creating the images. Through Hearth & Hammer, we are able to extend those images into branding, print materials, campaigns, websites, and other creative work when a client needs more than photography alone.

It feels a little like a cheat code being able to bring so much of that creative process together under one roof.

More importantly, it means the photography is never treated as an afterthought. We can think about where an image may eventually live before the shutter is ever pressed.

For Bong and Zemar, that meant walking away with photographs that could serve them today while also becoming building blocks for everything that comes next.

Thank You

I am incredibly grateful to Bong and Zemar for trusting me with this project, especially at such an important stage in the growth of Arjy Blaisdell Photography.

There is something special about helping someone see themselves reflected back through a photograph that feels polished, confident, and still unmistakably their own.

And this is only the beginning.

If you are looking for updated professional headshots, personal branding photography, family portraits, or photography for your business, I would love to hear what you are building and explore how I can help tell that story visually.
